Disneyland Half Marathon Recap

After running the Disneyland 10K, I was ready for the Half Marathon event on Sunday! It was another early wake-up call, with the race starting at 5:30am.  The pre-race festivities were so much fun-- there was almost a fight between good and evil!  Thank goodness all the characters realized they need to work together!

Pre-Race Fun!
After the pre-race show, I headed over to my corral and waited for the race to begin.  Disney doesn't do anything small and this morning's National Anthem was awesome and included fireworks!  And then we were off and running.

The Half Marathon starts in the parks-- once again we started in California Adventure.  Seeing the World of Color without all the crowds was awesome! After we made our way through California Adventure, we went into Disneyland.  It was fun to see more "behind the scenes" action and the course support was awesome.  RunDisney also did an awesome job with hydration stations and crowd control at the stations.  A big THANK YOU to all the volunteers who helped make the race possible for the runners.

After running through the parks, we ran through the streets of Anaheim.  I loved the course entertainment here, from the classic car show to the dance groups out there cheering us one.  At mile 9, we entered Angels stadium and this was another highlight of the race-- how often do you get to run on a MLB field and have the Girls Scouts & Boys Scouts cheering you on?!   After a couple more miles, me made our way back to Disneyland, ending the race near the Disneyland hotel.  The finish line area was super efficient and I was impressed with how smoothly everything went here.

After collecting my bling and hydration, I went back to my hotel to shower and head back to the parks for a few more hours of fun.  I had a great weekend with RunDisney and can't wait for my next adventure in November with the Gauntlet Challenge.  Now I just need costume ideas........

Happy Running.

Run Laughlin Race Recap

In March, during a weekly #RunChat I won a race entry and weekend hotel stay for the Run Laughlin Half Marathon. (If you’ve never joined a #RunChat, get more information here—it’s always a fun time!) The race is relatively new—this was only the second year, but I was excited.  The race run in two states & in two time zones—the nerd in me was excited to add this to my race experiences.. The race wasn't until December, but suddenly it was nine months later and I was ready to go.

The race was on a Saturday so I was driving out to Laughlin on Friday. After meeting up with the #RUN619 and Movin’ Shoes for my morning run, I was on my way.  The drive is 5-6 hours and I frankly wasn’t looking forward to it.  I had been monitoring the weather for about a week and it had been showing high winds for the drive—they weren’t lying!  The drive ended up being pretty uneventful and I arrived in Laughlin with plenty of time to hit up the expo and explore a bit.

After checking into my hotel, I h…

The Lululemon Test Truck Experience

I don’t own any Lululemon, but I’ve been told by my friends who love the brand that once you try it, you won’t want to wear any other brand. Earlier this year, I heard about their #MoreThanMiles tour that took #TheTestTruck to different cities so that people could do just that- test the Lululemon.  I was excited when I learned it would be coming to San Diego and quickly started following their Facebook page so I could stay up to date on the stops they would be making while they were here.

When a group of friends that run early every Monday morning learned that the truck would be near their normal running spot from 6:00am-8:00am, I decided to join them.  We met up at 4:55am for a short run then came over to the Lululemon Test Truck to get in line.

What is the Test Truck?
It’s exactly what it sounds like—it’s a truck where you get to try out a piece of Lululemon gear.  While you're there, you can also test out a pair of APL shoes which I heard were super comfy and light. (I opted out o…

Valentine's Day Gift Guide for the Runner You Love

Whether you’re someone who loves Valentines’s Day, someone who celebrates Singles Awareness day or someone who thinks it’s just another day, it’s always a good time to get something for that someone special in your life. If you’re shopping for  a significant other, your best friend or even yourself, here’s some things that I think are great for showing some love to the runner in your life.

73 Threads
Have you seen the tees and tanks made by 73 Threads? Not only are there some great prints, you get to pick your color tee or tank. The hardest part will be deciding which one you like best.  (And a big thank you to my friend Smitha for sharing the love-- use SDMOM to save 10% off your order.) And they aren't just for runners-- they have everyone covered from Triathletes to Sweet Tea drinkers.

Seems cliché, right?  But I’m not just talking about your normal chocolates.  I’m talking about Vega Protein Smoothie mix.  I actually am not a huge fan of chocolate, but I love my Vega ch…
